Program staff works in collaboration with individuals, families, businesses, faith-based organizations, and local and state agencies to prevent or delay the onset of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and abuse. Presentations, programs, and trainings on tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs are available upon request. Information is tailored to meet the needs of the audience. Allegany County Maryland Government Inpatient and Outpatient Addictions. Addiction is a progressive disease, characterized by a pathological pattern of chemical use, physiological involvement, and related physical, behavioral, social and emotional difficulties. Addiction negatively affects all persons who are significantly involved with an addicted individual, and significant others often respond in a manner that supports continued chemical use. Knowing this, we encourage those closely i​mpacted by addiction to be involved in its treatment. The primary goal is abstinence from substance use.​ Inpatient Addiction Services: The Joseph S. Massie Unit is a treatment facility for adults experiencing the devastating effects of alcoholism and other substance use disorders. Length of stay is individualized but averages 21 days. A holistic treatment approach is utilized to address the issues necessary to maintain an abstinent lifestyle. The Joseph S. Massie Unit is located on the grounds of the Thomas B. Finan Center in Cottages 3 & 4.

Prescribe Change Allegany County’s mission is to create awareness and educate the citizens of Allegany County, Maryland about the growing crisis of opioid prescription drugs, fentanyl, and heroin misuse and abuse in our community. Maryland’s Office of Overdose Response promotes collaboration across all state and local agencies working to address substance use and overdose in the state. We coordinate the inter-agency process to identify the state’s strategic priorities for preventing overdoses, and we work to promote the Governor’s policy agenda by focusing on programs and policies under five pillars: Prevention, Harm Reduction, Treatment, Recovery, and Public Safety.

AHEC West Allegany County Maryland Treatment and Recovery Services. Healing Allegany, Access to prevention, treatment, and recovery services. Healing Allegany seeks to reduce illness and death in Allegany County, Maryland related to opioid and substance use disorders. Funded through a $1 million, three-year grant from the federal Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP), Healing Allegany is driven by a community-based consortium comprised of nine member agencies as well as individual county residents who volunteer their time and talent to the project.
